"Introduction:
Kathryn is predominantly a Landscape artist. Her work hangs in many homes around the globe, and is popular with those who voyage in and around Northland, New Zealand, where she is known for her numerous works depicting Tane Mahuta, New Zealand's oldest Kauri Tree; the Waipoua Forest birds and also her more evocative works of the Hokianga harbour. Most recently she has set up a new studio, Studio 71,
where she now resides in the Whangarei Heads area.
To get a better feel for her work, you are invited to reflect on a few of her thoughts:
"Atmosphere, the pervading tone or mood of a place, is what I am often concerned about conveying, some may call it the Spirit of the Place".
"I think of Art as taking us beyond our ordinary lives. Beyond the mundane. A place where we can explore the imaginations of artists as they collectively edge towards showing us their thoughts and feelings through a visual medium".
"I like luminosity, sunrise, sunset, moonglow and also the hard light of the New Zealand sky. The places where the ocean meets the shore and where the mountain meets the sky. These are things that feed my soul, that make me feel alive".
"There is an on-going challenge in attempting to transmute light into the dense, raw material of paint, be it watercolor, pastel, oil or acrylic, all mediums that I choose to work in. But I have an allegiance to the beauty and romance of the world around us, that commits me to travel onwards, slowly exploring and discovering the landscape through one painting after another".
"I hope that you might enjoy a moment of peace and tranquility whilst viewing these works, that they might touch a memory, a feeling inside you".
